Native American Culture and the Paranormal Blog

This paranormal blog is for folks to ask questions they might have about Native American cultures and the paranormal. I also am a specialist in landscape history and nature/land spirits and can tackle that area as well. My qualifications? I am an enrolled member of the Ioway tribe, and was raised in Montana. I am familiar with the cultures, folklore, and history of many tribes. I attended the Institute of American Indian Arts and at the University of Montana received my B.A. in Anthropology and Native American Studies. My M.A. is in Anthropology from Iowa State University, as well as an M.L.A. focusing on Landscape History. I have had over 20 years of experience in archaeology and historic preservation. I have studied the paranormal and the occult, having had experiences since I was a child. I am the founder of a local paranormal investigation group. I am 47 years old and live in Helena, Montana with my wife. I currently am adjunct faculty at the University of Montana teaching art and archaeology. I am also a member of the Ancient Order of Druids in America (AODA) and a Roman Catholic.

I have other blogs you can check out too:

Halito,

I have really enjoyed reading your blog. I was wondering if I could ask you some specific questions about some things. I am part-Choctaw, and part of a paranormal investigation team. We are entering some land soon that was inhabited by a tribe many years ago. I want to make sure that before we investigate we 1) respect the land and spirits 2) protect ourselves from any malevolent spirits (there is also a ghost-town which is nearby) 3) any other advice you have

Thank you so much!

I am Part LuiseƱo, as a child i have always felt a strong connection with that part of me. But have been unsuccessful at finding how to become a part of a Tribe.I am a new paranormal Investigator. I am going to be going to a home that is very active. I have been asked about smudging, I feel that it is wrong for me to go to some person on the internet to buy sage. I want to go to the Navajo
reservation to ask for sage. But i am so afraid I will offend the elders. Can you help me to know who to ask for and how to approach this matter? Or where in Arizona i can fins sage. Or in that area, AZ, NM,Ok also, Prayers during smudging.I am a christian, Can you help me with this? I am very new at this and feel it is my calling. Is it wrong of me as far as my heritage go's, to do this?? I know I'm asking a lot of stuff, so thank you for your time and help. Your page has helped me so very much to learn. I hope you keep doing this. Thank you Kate

Hi, very glad to have found your blog. I would be most interested in your take on the Marfa Lights, if that might be something you'd be interested in commenting on. (I did a podcast with transcript about the Marfa Lights http://www.cmmayo.com/marfa/podcast-7-lights.html but I am quite sure there is much more to say.... ) Kind regards
